Phlebotomy

We offer a phlebotomy service for an extensive range of blood tests. These are usually done by prior appointment.

These include:

Full blood count, Liver function, Kidney function, Glucose (test for diabetes, requires fasting for 14 hours prior to test, water may be taken), Cholesterol (requires fasting for 14 hours prior to test, water may be taken. Thyroid function, B12, Folate, Ferritin, Prostate Specific Antigen (men > 50 years) INR (for those on warfarin) Other tests such as hemochromatosis screen, coeliac screen, rheumatoid screen and other tests as deemed necessary.

Blood tests are carried out in the morning and are collected by our courier at lunchtime. Samples are sent to the laboratory in Cork University Hospital.

Results are given to the patient by the doctor or routine results are given by the practice nurse.

Patients are asked to phone for results one week after the test.
